Charles Lightoller was no doubt one of the heroes on the night of the Titanic tragedy. He was originally intended to be a first class officer on the Titanic, but the day before was forced to accept second class officer status as Captain Smith decided to employ somebody. He was responsible for loading hundreds of women, children and men onto lifeboats and had to threaten some passengers who selfishly tried to takeover a lifeboat with a gun that Wilde had given to him earlier in the night. He miraculously survived and had to go to court at a later date to give evidence.
