1. Winter Concert at Sefton Park Palm House

Step into Christmas with Liverpool ONE’s brand-new festive event for 2018 and see the launch of a giant light spectacular at Chavasse park. Enjoy a 250-strong choir, street performances and special appearances throughout the launch evening, as the 96-cubed light installation Polaris: Dare to Dream comes to life. The L1 Christmas tree will already be illuminated during the event – it’s being lit up on 15 November, without an event.

3. Church Street Christmas Lights Switch On

It won’t just be the L1 decorations lighting up Liverpool this Christmas – across town other lights are set to be switched on at a date TBC in November. The magical Lord Street Christmas tree and festive decorations down the main shopping district will turn Liverpool city centre into a magical wonderland every evening in the countdown to Christmas time.

5. Follow the Star Trail

Date: November – January 

Location: Across the city centre

Let the kids run wild across Castle Street and Bold Street as the ‘Follow the Star Installation’ returns to the city. Lasers will be shining down from the Bombed Out Church along the whole of Bold Street, through eight elegant stars suspended along the street, in homage to the eight bells that were destroyed during the 1941 blitz. The installation will happen every half hour, with a sequence of lighting and sound. A similar installation is also going to be set up along Castle Street.

Embrace the cold at the Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival as you’re transported to a frozen winter wonderland on the Pier Head. It’s time to get your skates on and take to the ice at the largest-ever ice rink the annual festival has provided or get slippy on the UK’s longest ice slide. 7. Take a Selfie with an Albert Dock Ice Figure

Where: The Royal Albert Dock

Discover some icy figures down at the Albert Dock, as their magical Christmas on the Dock gets underway on 22 November. Visitors can enjoy performances from the Salvation Army choir, a pop-up Christmas tree shop, special offers on food and retail outlets and four incredible ice sculptures positioned around the Dock.

Take a picture with an ice-skating penguin, a pair of angel wings, a figure of Santa Claus or Rudolph himself.

8. Woolton Picture House Christmas Cinema Nights Month

Head to Woolton Village for a month of festive film dates at the independent Woolton Picture House. 10. Find Your Festive Spirit at Liverpool’s Christmas Markets

Liverpool’s Christmas Market will be returning to the city in 2018, but the City Council has yet to announce when the opening date will be. The German-influenced pop-up market has been a hit over a number of years, with its cute wooden huts and festive offerings at the atmospheric St George’s Hall plateau. Last year saw over 40 traditional-style cabins decorated with garlands and Christmas lights in the square and the City Council have promised much of the same for the 2018 market.

With hot food and festive beverages on offer including mulled wine, hot chocolate and, of course, bratwurst, plus plenty of stalls selling festive gifts, it will be the perfect Christmas date for any lovebirds or a great family evening out to placate excited kids during the festive season.

11. Love Actually in Concert

We all know the worlds to The Snowman, but have you ever sung along with a live orchestra and the main man of Christmas himself? Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall is hosting two festive family concerts for adults and kids to come together and enjoy a full symphony orchestra with plenty of Christmas cheer. Sing-a-long as Father Christmas himself leads the vocals during a seasonal screening of the iconic Yuletide film.

Concerts last about an hour and if you get down half an hour early, children can enjoy trying our a variety of instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo!

An iconic Xmas film, Scrooge tells the adapted Dickens’ tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, a festive humbug who’s visited by ghosts of Christmas past, present and future who enlighten him to the true meaning of Christmas and the importance of kindness and compassion during the Christmas season. Liverpool’s favourite Christmas-themed bar returns to Liverpool on Friday 16 November and is staying until January. Miracle on Seel Street will be opening its doors above Salt Dog Slims, offering festive cocktails and yuletide snacks to visitors.
