About J.Bruce Ismay
J. Bruce Ismay, the chairman and the managing director of the White Star Line, employed Norman Shaw, a highly regarded architect, to build his head office at 30 James Street.
Ismay was also the highest-ranking White Star official among the 705 surviving passengers. Many labelled him cowardly for abandoning the ship, but Ismay dedicated the rest of his life to helping victim’s families with significant donations.
